Professional Workshops and Training for Therapists

Portland Psychotherapy isn’t only a clinic — we’re a research and training center, and teaching other therapists is central to our mission. Through our training arm, we offer live workshops, seminars, and continuing education for psychologists, counselors, social workers, and other mental health professionals, both online and in person in Portland, Oregon.

What makes our trainings different is who’s teaching them. Our workshops are developed and led by the researcher-clinicians who study these treatments — not by presenters summarizing someone else’s work. Our founders include peer-reviewed ACT trainers and authors of foundational texts in the field, including Learning ACT and Values in Therapy, and our active research lab runs clinical trials in the areas we teach. When you train with us, you’re learning from people who helped build the evidence base.

What We Teach

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). From experiential introductions for therapists new to the model through advanced skill-building for experienced ACT clinicians, ACT training has been the core of our professional education for nearly two decades. Our instructors include authors of some of the most widely used ACT training texts. See our ACT resources for therapists or start with our free guide to learning ACT.

Psychedelic-assisted therapy. We host Therapy and Research in Psychedelic Science (TRIPS), a monthly online seminar series featuring leading researchers and clinicians, along with workshops on clinical topics in psychedelic-assisted therapy — an area where our team conducts active clinical research.

Evidence-based practice. Additional workshops cover topics such as exposure-based treatment for anxiety, working with shame and self-criticism, values work, and other applications of contextual behavioral science.

Most trainings are conducted live online so you can attend from anywhere; select intensive workshops are held in person at our Portland offices. Many events offer continuing education credit — see each course listing for details.
