Peer Support Groups for People with Addictions

  • SMART Recovery is a non-12 step peer support group that is heavily based on a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach to addiction treatment
  • Secular Organizations of Sobriety (SOS) is a non-religious/non-spiritually based support group for people with addictions.
  • Refuge Recovery – peer support meetings from a Buddhist perspective
  • Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is one of the oldest peer support groups in the U.S. It is based on the 12-step model of recovery
  • Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a 12-step based peer support group. It is similar to AA, but is typically for individuals with problematic drug use:
  • Dual Diagnosis Anonymous of Oregon is a 12-step based peer support group for people with concurrent substance use and mental health problems

  • The Avel Gordley Center at OSHU offers substance abuse treatment for adults on an outpatient basis.  The center also offers services that are tailored for individuals who identify as African, African-American, and with Southeast Asian cultures
